Happy New Year!

We are now two days into the new year. Many of us have thought about and made new year’s resolutions. We all think this is a good starting point to begin a more positive lifestyle and to eliminate some negative habits. We may resolve to lose weight, exercise more, or we may have a noble resolve to have the family together at the dinner table most nights instead of on the run or in front of the TV.

We may even resolve to become a better Christian this year. Success in any resolve requires planning. What can we do to become a better Christian? Read and study the Bible more, pray more? Sure, we are sincere in wanting to do those things, but so often, as time goes by, so does our resolve. Does our resolve to become a better Christian get pushed by the wayside when we do not manage our time effectively. “I’m not going to have time to read my Bible today; I’ll read double tomorrow.” Does that sound familiar?

We need a plan in place to keep our pledge to become a better Christian! Let’s start with remembering what the Bible says in Deuteronomy 23:21-23:

21 "If you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. 22But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. 23You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God what you have promised with your mouth.

Now, that makes it very serious. Make the resolve. Have a plan. Be diligent. Since we are human and sometimes waver, let us not wait until 2012 to make a new resolution. Let us examine ourselves daily and resolve to make each tomorrow better.
